In civilian life, Ernest was a filling station attendant in Baltimore, Maryland, U.S.A. before enlisting in his hometown on 1st March 1943.

Bradford died on 19th February 1944 aged 19 years old. The cause of death was due to injuries caused in a training incident involving land mines.

Burial first took place at Lisnabreeny American Military Cemetery, Belfast. After the war, Bradford was repatriated to Plot E, Row 0, Grave 4962 of Baltimore National Cemetery, Baltimore, Maryland, U.S.A.
