Corporal Albert Dane Boshnett served in the U.S. Army during the Second World War. He played in the first game of American Football in Northern Ireland in 1942.

Corporal Albert Dane Boshnett (15087803) served in the United States Army during the Second World War. Born on 23rd January 1922, he was the son of Isadore Boshanetz and Verla Grace Curry (formerly Boshanetz, née Baughman) of Clarksburg, Harrison County, West Virginia, U.S.A. By 1942, Boshnett was residing in Tioga, Nicholas County, West Virginia, U.S.A.

In civilian life, Boshnett had attended high school for a total of three years. On 7th January 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Army at Fort Thomas, Newport, Campbell County, Kentucky, U.S.A.

During his time in Northern Ireland, the 5’9” 185lb center played for the ‘Yarvard’ American football team. This team played at Ravenhill Stadium, Belfast on 14th November 1942 in the first American football game in the E.T.O.

Following the Second World War, Boshnett returned to Harrison County, West Virginia, U.S.A. where he married Leota Dell Schenck on 3rd September 1948. Corporal Boshnett died on 3rd April 1964 aged 41 years old. His grave is in Shinnston Memorial Cemetery and Mausoleum, Shinnston, Harrison County, West Virginia, U.S.A.
