First Sergeant Ted Schwerin served in the United States Army during the Second World War. He hailed from the U.S.A.
First Sergeant Schwerin arrived in Northern Ireland on 26th January 1942 as part of the first contingent of American troops. While waiting to depart for his first camp, he demonstrated the differences in American kit to Major-General V.H.B. Majendie (G.O.C. Northern Ireland District). The General seemed suitably impressed by the merits of the American gas mask.
