Sergeant Herbert W. Williams served in the United States Army during the Second World War. He hailed from Houston, Texas, U.S.A.

Sergeant Williams arrived in Northern Ireland on 26th January 1942 as part of the first contingent of American troops. Along with him, he brought a well-trained mongrel dog “Jitterbug” who acted as a mascot for a Company of 119 soldiers.
