Corporal Robert Lynas of Portadown, Co. Armagh died on 14th May 1945 as a result of a fatal accidental gunshot wound while serving with the Royal Air Force.

Corporal Robert Lynas (530316) served in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War. He was the son of James Lynas and Margaret Lynas of Clonroot, Portadown, Co. Armagh. His sister Mavis Lynas served in the Woman’s Auxiliary Air Force.

Corporal Lynas died on 14th May 1945 as a result of an accidental gunshot wound. His grave is in Section IV, Row H, Grave 13 of Naples War Cemetery, Italy. His name is on the Portadown War Memorial, Portadown, Co. Armagh. His headstone bears the inscription:

Jesu, lover of my soul, let me to thy bosom fly.
