Petty Officer Matthew Thomas Archer (D/JX 193627) served in the Royal Navy during the Second World War. He was born on 31st May 1912 in Newbliss, Co. Monaghan, Ireland.

Petty Officer Archer died on 11th March 1943 aged 30 years old while serving on S.S. Empire Impala. His base was at H.M.S. President III. The British Merchant ship was part of Convoy SC-121, operating in the North Atlantic when it came under attack from U-591 at 0906hrs on 7th March 1943.

Petty Officer Archer has no known grave and his name is on panel 78, Column 2 of the Plymouth Naval Memorial, Plymouth, Devon, England. His name is also on the Portadown War Memorial, Portadown, Co. Armagh.
