William Hill

Able Seaman William Hill of Annalong, Co. Down died on 3rd May 1941 when Belfast-built S.S. Corbet struck a mine and sank in the mouth of the River Mersey.

Able Seaman William Hill served in the Merchant Navy during the Second World War. He was the son of Alexander Hill and Eliza Jane Hill (née Campbell), and the husband of Jane Hill (née Newell) of Annalong, Co. Down.

Able Seaman Hill died on 3rd May 1941 aged 55 years old while serving on S.S. Corbet. The 468-ton British Steam Coaster struck a mine in the mouth of the Mersey off Herculaneum Dock en route from Garston to Belfast with a cargo of coal. Hill has no known grave and his name is on Panel 31 of the Tower Hill Memorial, London, England.
