Samuel Caddell

Chief Engineer Officer Samuel Caddell of Belfast died on 3rd May 1941 when Belfast-built S.S. Corbet struck a mine and sank in the mouth of the River Mersey.

Chief Engineer Officer Samuel Caddell served in the Merchant Navy during the Second World War. He was the husband of Mary Caddell of Belfast.

Chief Engineer Officer Caddell died on 3rd May 1941 aged 40 years old while serving on S.S. Corbet. The 468-ton British Steam Coaster struck a mine in the mouth of the Mersey off Herculaneum Dock en route from Garston to Belfast with a cargo of coal. Caddell has no known grave and his name is on Panel 31 of the Tower Hill Memorial, London, England.
