Hugh McSeveney

Lamp Trimmer Hugh McSeveney of Larne, Co. Antrim died on 3rd May 1941 when Belfast-built S.S. Corbet struck a mine and sank in the mouth of the River Mersey.

Lamp Trimmer Hugh McSeveney served in the Merchant Navy during the Second World War. He was the son of Robert McSeveney and Ellen McSeveney, and the husband of Isabella McSeveney of Larne, Co. Antrim.

Lamp Trimmer McSeveney died on 3rd May 1941 aged 35 years old while serving on S.S. Corbet. The 468-ton British Steam Coaster struck a mine in the mouth of the Mersey off Herculaneum Dock en route from Garston to Belfast with a cargo of coal. McSeveney has no known grave and his name is on Panel 31 of the Tower Hill Memorial, London, England.
