Clive Martinez was an evacuee from Gibraltar housed at Camp no. 2, Cargagh near Downpatrick, Co. Down. He was born at a Dr. Barnardo's home in Romford, Essex, England. The family had first sailed from Gibraltar to the United Kingdom on S.S. Dromore Castle in July 1940.
On the steamship were his parents John Martinez Sr. and Clemencia “Menchi” Martinez, brothers John “Johnny” Martinez Jr. and Joseph “Pepe” Martinez, and sister Amanda Martinez. In later life, Clive returned to Northern Ireland to visit the site of the old camp.
