Clemencia Martinez was an evacuee from Gibraltar housed at Camp no. 2, Cargagh near Downpatrick, Co. Down. Known as Menchi, she first sailed from Gibraltar to the United Kingdom on S.S. Dromore Castle in July 1940.
Also on the steamship were her husband John Martinez Sr., their sons John “Johnny” Martinez Jr. and Joseph “Pepe” Martinez, and daughter Amanda Martinez. The youngest son Clive Martinez was born at a Dr. Barnardo’s home in Romford, Essex, England before the family moved on to Northern Ireland.
