Amanda Martinez was an evacuee from Gibraltar housed at Camp no. 2, Cargagh near Downpatrick, Co. Down. She first sailed from Gibraltar to the United Kingdom on S.S. Dromore Castle in July 1940.
Also on the steamship were her parents John Martinez Sr. and Clemencia “Menchi” Martinez, and her brothers John “Johnny” Martinez Jr. and Joseph “Pepe” Martinez. The youngest brother Clive Martinez was born at a Dr. Barnardo’s home in Romford, Essex, England before the family moved on to Northern Ireland.
