Franklin Milnes "Frank" Aykroyd

Franklin Milnes Aykroyd departed from Belfast on the ill-fated S.S. Athenia on 1st September 1939 with his wife Joan Somerset Aykroyd (née Aobone) and daughters Prudence Aykroyd and Judith Aykroyd. His address given on boarding documents was Newtown House, Rathgar, Dublin, Ireland and he appeared under a list of American and Canadian residents sailing in Tourist Cabin Class.

The Aykroyd family resided at 473 Landsdowne Avenue, Westmount, Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Frank survived the sinking and landed with fellow survivors on board the Norwegian steamer Knut Nelson at Galway, Ireland on 5th September 1939.
