Eva Blair departed from Belfast on the ill-fated S.S. Athenia on 1st September 1939. Her address given on boarding documents was Castle Erin, Portrush, Co. Antrim and she appeared under a list of American and Canadian residents sailing in Tourist Cabin Class.

Eva, a 32 year old housewife, survived the sinking and landed with fellow survivors on board the Norwegian steamer Knut Nelson at Galway, Ireland on 5th September 1939.
