Two women named Elizabeth Campbell boarded S.S. Athenia from Belfast on 1st September 1939. Both survived although landed on opposite sides of the Atlantic.

Elizabeth Campbell departed from Belfast on the ill-fated S.S. Athenia on 1st September 1939 with her daughter also named Elizabeth Campbell. Her address given on boarding document was Monaclough, Armoy, Co. Antrim and she appeared on a list of American citizens sailing in Third Class.
Elizabeth, a 50 year old housewife, survived the sinking. On 6th September 1939, friends and relatives of an H.E. Campbell received a telegram informing them of her safety at Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland.
