Bertha Louise Buchanan

Bertha Louise Buchnan was the wife of A.W.P. Buchanan, a well-known and notable man in the legal profession in Canada. She embarked on S.S. Athenia at Belfast.

Bertha Louise Buchanan (née Quirin) departed from Belfast on the ill-fated S.S. Athenia on 1st September 1939. She was the wife of Mr. Arthur William Patrick Buchanan. Her address given on boarding documents was Camus House, Liskey Road, Strabane, Co. Tyrone and she appeared under a list of American and Canadian residents sailing in Cabin Class.

Mrs. Buchanan regularly spent the summer months with her husband in Strabane, Co. Tyrone before returning to Montreal, Quebec, Canada for the winter. Mr. A.W.P. Buchanan, a well-known and notable man in the legal profession, had returned to Canada about three weeks earlier. He died on 1st November 1939.

Bertha, a 65 year old housewife, survived the sinking and landed with fellow survivors on board the Norwegian steamer Knut Nelson at Galway, Ireland on 5th September 1939.
