Alice Apers

Alice Apers departed from Belfast on the ill-fated S.S. Athenia on 1st September 1939 with her daughter Laura Smith and sister Florence French. Her address given on boarding documents was 159 Beersbridge Road, Belfast and she appeared under a list of American and Canadian residents sailing in Third Class.

Alice, a 34 year old housewife, survived the sinking. On 6th September 1939, friends and relatives received a telegram informing them of her safety. She had landed at Greenock and was safe and well at Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland.
