Fusillier Robert James Irwin (7014337) served in 2nd Battalion, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers during the Second World War. He was the son of Jacob Henry Irwin and Margaret “Maggie” Irwin (née Best) of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and the nephew of Robert Irwin of 7 Mary Street, Portadown, Co. Armagh. Robert lived with his uncle and grandmother before enlisting in 1939.
Fusilier Irwin died on 11th July 1943 aged 21 years old. He has no known grave and his name is on Panel 6 of the Cassino Memorial, Italy. His name is also on the Portadown War Memorial, Portadown, Co. Armagh.
