Aircraftwoman 2nd Class Jean Dibby Wright (2002675) served in the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force during the Second World War. She was the daughter of William Grant Wright and Mary Victoria Wright of Portaferry, Co. Down.
During the Second World War, she was one of three 16 or 17-year-old women flying with No. 5 Group, Bomber Command based at R.A.F. Syerston, Newark, Nottinghamshire, England.
Aircraftwoman 2nd Class Wright died on 8th February 1942 aged 17 years old at St. Ann’s War Emergency Hospital, Newark, Nottinghamshire, England. Her cause of death was Tuberculosis Meningitis as a result of Miliary Tuberculosis of the lungs.
After her death, Aircraftwoman 2nd Class Wright was cremated and her name is on Panel 5 of Nottingham Crematorium, England. Records suggest her ashes were scattered at Victoria Park close to Niagara Falls, Canada.
