Private Mario Jack Agnese (39007788) served in 311th Ferry Squadron, 27th Air Transport Group, 8th Air Force, United States Army Air Force during the Second World War. Born on 23rd November 1908, he was the son of Maragarite Agnese of Dronero, Provincia di Cuneo, Piemonte, Italy.
Agnese enlisted on 23rd April 1941 in San Francisco County, California, U.S.A. Before the war, he was a mechanic with Oakland Air Service, working on the repairing of airplanes, having completed 4 years of high school.
Agnese died on 4th March 1944 aged 35 years old while serving as an engineer on B-26C #41-34893. The plane crashed shortly after take-off from Maghaberry Airfield, Co. Antrim due to a mechanical failure in one of the engines.
Burial first took place at Lisnabreeny American Military Cemetery, Belfast. After the war, Agnese was repatriated to Section U, Row 14, Grave 1 of Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Colma, San Mateo County, California, U.S.A.
