Civilian Sarah Hughes was a fatal casualty of the Belfast Blitz during the Second World War. She lived at 12 Thorndyke Street, Belfast at the time of the Luftwaffe attack on the city.
According to Commonwealth War Graves Commission Casualty Lists, Sarah Hughes died on 17th April 1941 aged 62 years old at Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast.
On 19th April 1941, the Belfast Telegraph reported that the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast had discharged a Miss Sarah Hughes of Thorndyke Street. Contradictory evidence appears in the Belfast Telegraph of 18th April 1941 and the Ballymena Weekly Telegraph of 26th April 1941. These newspapers suggest the Sarah Hughes admitted to the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast suffering from the effects of gas poisoning was from 7 Vulcan Street, Belfast.
