Chief Yeoman of Signals James Alexander Kane (D/J 23704) served in the Royal Navy during the Second World War. He lived with his wife and 5 and a half year old daughter at 57 Orangefield Crescent, Belfast.
In civilian life, James worked as a Post Office Messenger before joining the Royal Navy where he had 24 years’ service. He served throughout The Great War and retired on a Navy pension. In 1937, he joined the staff of the Unemployment Assistance Board in Belfast. He was recalled to the Royal Navy on the outbreak of war in September 1939.
Chief Yeoman of Signals Kane died on 23rd November 1939 while serving on H.M.S. Rawalpindi. He has no known grave and his name is on Panel 34, Column 1 of the Plymouth Naval Memorial, Plymouth, Devon, England.
