Aircraftman 1st Class Thomas Arthur Mewhort (965965) served in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve during the Second World War. He was the son of Josiah Mewhort and Lucinda Mewhort of Belfast, and the husband of Annie M. Mewhort of Belfast.

Mewhort died at No. 24 (London) General Hospital, Campbell College, Belfast on 20th September 1942 aged 44 years old. His cause of death was pulmonary tuberculosis.

Mewhort’s grave is in Glenalina Extension, Section A.S., Grave 1 of Belfast City Cemetery, Belfast. His headstone bears the inscription:

Gone to be with Christ, which is far better.
