Sergeant John Hunter (652116) served in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Hunter of Belfast.

Sergeant Hunter died on 1st May 1943 aged 22 years old while serving in R.A.F. No. 1663 Heavy Conversion Unit. He was an Air Gunner of Mark V Handley-Page Halifax DG408 when it came down in the English Channel off the coast of Brest, France.

The crew took off at 1520hrs from R.A.F. Rufforth, Yorkshire, England on a cross-country training flight. There are no further details on what caused the crash.

Sergeant John Hunter’s grave is in Siouville Churchyard, France.
