Royal Air Force 44 (Rhodesia) Squadron, part of R.A.F. Bomber Command was one of only two squadrons to operate continuously throughout the Second World War.

Sergeant Norman Nicholas England of Portadown, Co. Armagh died on 22nd June 1943 while taking part in a bombing raid over Germany with R.A.F. 44 Squadron.
