During the Second World War, R.A.F. 15 Squadron undertook several roles in different aircraft, becoming an early squadron to convert to the Short Stirling.

Sergeant Edward John Wright of Belfast died on 1st September 1943 taking part in a night-time bombing raid over Berlin as a wireless operator and air gunner.
Sergeant Henry Howard Maginn of Portadown, Co. Armagh died on 11th September 1942 while on a Bomber Command raid over Germany in a Short Stirling bomber.
