Fireman Francis Maginness served in the Merchant Navy during the Second World War. He was the son of Frank Maginness and Mary Maginness, and the husband of Ellen Maginness of Ardkeen, Co. Down.
Fireman Maginness died on 4th June 1940 aged 30 years old while serving on S.S. River Humber. The merchant vessel sank after colliding with H.M.S. Folkestone en route in ballast from Dublin, Ireland to Preston, Lancashire, England. He has no known grave and his name is on Panel 87 of the Tower Hill Memorial, London, England.
