Donald Bremner

Donkeyman Donald Bremner of Ballymena, Co. Antrim died on 6th February 1943 following an aerial torpedo attack on S.S. Fort Babine off the Algerian coast.

Donkeyman Donald Bremner served in the Merchant Navy during the Second World War. He was the son of Donald Bremner and Catherine Bremner, and the husband of Annie Bremner of Ballymena, Co. Antrim.

Donkeyman Bremner died on 6th February 1943 aged 46 years old while serving on S.S. Fort Babine. The merchant vessel came under attack off Oran on the Algerian coast. An aerial torpedo caused damage and killed 6 members of the crew. The damaged vessel was towed to Oran to discharge cargo before journeying onward to Gibraltar for repair.

Donkeyman Bremner’s grave is in Plot E, Row E, Grave 27 of Le Petit Lac Cemetery, Algeria. His headstone bears the inscription:

Ever remembered by his wife and five sons.
