Greaser Walter Stewart Donaldson of Jerrettspass, Co. Armagh died on 7th March 1941 as M.V. Empire Light came under attack from a U-Boat in the north Atlantic.

Greaser Walter Stewart Donaldson served in the Merchant Navy during the Second World War. He was the son of Stuart Donaldson and Mary Donaldson of Jerrettspass, Co. Armagh.
Donaldson died on 7th March 1943 aged 35 years old while serving on M.V. Empire Light. The British merchant vessel was a straggler from Convoy ON-168 in bad weather southwest of Cape Farewell. At 1820hrs, U-638 attacked although the crew thought they had missed the target. M.V. Empire Light was damaged and abandoned with the loss of 39 crew members and 6 gunners.
Greaser Donaldson has no known grave and his name is on Panel 43 of the Tower Hill Memorial, London, England.
