Civilian Joseph McWhinney Sr. was a fatal casualty of the Belfast Blitz during the Second World War. He lived with his wife Bridget McWhinney, daughters Eileen McWhinney and Mary McWhinney, and sons Joseph McWhinney Jr. and James McWhinney at 22 Unity Street, Belfast at the time of the Luftwaffe attack on the city.

Joseph McWhinney Sr. died on 16th April 1941 aged 45 years old at 22 Unity Street, Belfast.
