Daniel McAteer

Fusilier Daniel McAteer of Ballymena, Co. Antrim died on 13th January 1943 as 6th Battalion, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers fought near Bou Arada in Tunisia.

Corporal Daniel McAteer (6982565) served in 6th Battalion, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers during the Second World War. He was the son of John McAteer and Hessie McAteer of Ballymena, Co. Antrim.

Corporal McAteer died on 13th January 1943 aged 22 years old. On this day, the Battalion launched an attack on Two Tree Hill near Bou Arada. Thunderstorms, downpours, and gale force winds the previous night made for tricky terrain when traveling by carrier or on foot. The enemy held position and the Battalion withdrawal was complete by 1530hrs.

McAteer was one of eleven other ranks killed on 13th January 1943. He has no known grave and his name is on Face 19 of the Medjez-el-Bab Memorial, Tunisia.
