Rifleman Derek Best (7020131) served in 2nd Battalion, The London Irish Rifles, Royal Ulster Rifles during the Second World War. He was the son of Joseph Best and Margaret Best (née Nelson) of Lisburn, Co. Antrim, and the husband of Georgina Best (née Dodds) of Lisburn, Co. Antrim.
Rifleman Best died on 2nd December 1943 aged 21 years old. His grave is in Section VIII, Row B, Grave 6 of Sangro River War Cemetery, Italy. His name is on the Lisburn War Memorial, Lisburn, Co. Antrim. His headstone bears the inscription:
