Oliver Gilroy

Co. Fermanagh Fusilier Oliver Gilroy of 1st Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers was a prisoner of war in Burma at his time of death on 3rd September 1942.

Fusilier Oliver Gilroy (6978778) served in 1st Battalion, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers during the Second World War. He was the son of Rose Gilroy of Lisnaskea, Co. Fermanagh.

Gilroy died on 3rd September 1942 aged 24 years old. He had been a prisoner of war in Burma since 15th February 1942. His grave is in Section 6, Row J, Grave 5 of Rangoon War Cemetery, Rangoon, Myanmar. His headstone bears the inscription:

Son of Rose Gilroy of Lisnaskea, Co. Fermanagh, Northern Ireland.
