59th (Staffordshire) Reconnaissance Regiment formed in 1941, arriving in Northern Ireland in November that year with 59th (Staffordshire) Infantry Division.

On 6th December 1941, members of 59th Battalion, Reconnaissance Corps undertook motorcycle training on the terrain of the sandhills at Ballykinler, Co. Down.
On 14th August 1942, soldiers of 59th (Staffordshire) Reconnaissance Regiment took part in a 'Busman's Holiday', conducting motorcycle trials in Co. Armagh.
