Private William Fitzgerald (VX15673) served in 2/32 Battalion, Australian Infantry during the Second World War. Born on 13th February 1911, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Fitzgerald of Ballymena, Co. Antrim.

William enlisted in the Australian Army on 17th May 1940. His name appeared on Casualty List V388 on 2nd December 1942 as a believed Prisoner of War. Casualty list V407 issued on 5th February 1943 confirmed the private’s death.

Private Fitzgerald died on 1st November 1942 aged 31 years old. His grave is in Section AII, Row C, Grave 1 of El Alamein War Cemetery, Egypt.
