William Fitzgerald was born in Ballymena, Co. Antrim but moved to Australia where he enlisted in 2nd Australian Imperial Force on 17th May 1940.

Private William Fitzgerald (VX15673) served in the 2nd Australian Imperial Force, 32nd Battalion Australian Infantry during World War Two. Born on 13th February 1911, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. W Fitzgerald of Ballymena, Co. Antrim.

William enlisted on 17th May 1940. His name appeared on Casualty List V388 on 2nd December 1942, believed to be a Prisoner of War. He died on 1st November 1942 aged 31 years old. Casualty list V407 on 5th February 1943 confirmed the Private’s death.

William Fitzgerald’s grave is in Section AII, Row C, Grave 1 of El Alamein War Cemetery, Egypt.
