Richard Weir

Stoker 1st Class Richard Weir was the son of Charles and Julie Weir of Belfast, Co. Antrim. He died on 12th December 1946 after serving in World War Two.

Richard Weir was born in Belfast, Co. Antrim and went on to serve throughout World War Two with the Royal Navy including time on board HMS Warspite in the Mediterranean.

Stoker 1st Class Richard Weir (C/KX 11312) served in the Royal Navy during World War Two. He served on board HMS Warspite, spending part of the war based around the Mediterranean.

Richard was the son of Charles Weir and Julia Weir (née Burns) of Belfast, Co. Antrim. He was also the husband of Rachel E Weir or Belfast, Co. Antrim.

In the 1911 census, Richard is 5 years old living in the home of his uncle William Patterson and aunt Jane Patterson at 22.2 Edith Street, Belfast, Co. Antrim. Also living in the house is Richard’s 22 year old mother Julia Weir, and his 8 year old sister Agnes Weir. Stoker 1st Class Weir died on 12th December 1946 aged 40 years old.

Richard Weir’s grave is in Glenalina Extension, Section R, Grave 1 of Belfast City Cemetery, Belfast, Co. Antrim. His headstone bears the inscription:

They shall sleep but not forever. There will be a glorious dawn “till he come”.
