Gunner Peter Jones of Scotland was one of the first fatalities of the Belfast Blitz when his Anti-Aircraft Gun misfired during the Docks Raid on 8th April 1941.

Gunner Peter Jones (1698869) was a fatal casualty of the Belfast Blitz during the Second World War. Born on 3rd December 1914, he was the son of the late Christopher Jones and Isabella "Isa" Graham Jones (née Morrison) of 669 Garscube Road, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland.

On 13th January 1936, he married Helen Clark McFarlane Thompson of 21 Hope Street, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland.

Peter served in 316 Battery, 102 Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment, Royal Artillery. He died on 8th April 1941 aged 26 years old at when an Anti-Aircraft Gun misfired at an emplacement near Balmoral Golf Club, Belfast. Peter Jones’ grave is in Section 14, Row F, Grave 73 of Sighthill Cemetery, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland. His headstone bears the inscription:

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
