Rifleman John Patterson of Summerhill Street, East Belfast died on 9th June 1944 as the Royal Ulster Rifles fought at Cambes Wood, Normandy, France.

Rifleman John Patterson (7020205) served in C Company, 2nd Battalion Royal Ulster Rifles during the Second World War. He was the son of John Patterson and Elizabeth Patterson of Belfast, and the husband of Florence Patterson of Summerhill Street, Belfast.

John Patterson died on Friday 9th June 1944 aged 32 years old at Cambes Wood, Normandy, France. His brother served in the Royal Air Force. John’s grave is in Section C, Grave 16 of Cambes-en-Plaine War Cemetery, Normandy, France. His headstone bears the inscription:

Fear thou not for I am with thee. Be not dismayed for I am thy God.
