Labourer John Esdale died on 8th April 1941 during The Docks Raid of the Belfast Blitz as high explosive bombs fell on the Harland and Wolff Shipyard Ltd.

It is not known if John Esdale was an employee at Harland and Wolff Shipyard Ltd. when he died there as a result of enemy action on 7th-8th April 1941.

Labourer John Esdale was in the vicinity of the Harland and Wolff Shipyard Ltd. when tragedy struck. He was the son of James Esdale and Margaret Esdale of Stranngard, Desertmartin, Co. Londonderry.

On the night of 7th-8th April 1941, the Luftwaffe attacked the city in what would become known as The Docks Raid of the Belfast Blitz.

John Esdale died on 8th April 1941 aged 72 years old. At his time of death, he lived at 41 Bristol Street, Belfast, Co. Antrim with his wife Sarah Esdale.
