1st Lieutenant John A McLean served in the United States Army Air Force as part of 401 Bomb Squadron. He was killed in Northern Ireland on 3rd October 1942.

1st Lieutenant John A McLean was killed when the B17 Flying Fortress he was piloting crashed on Slieveanorra in the Co. Antrim hills on 3rd October 1942. He served with 91st Bomb Group, 401st Bomb Squadron USAAF.

With the remaining seven men killed in the B17 crash, McLean’s body was taken first to Belfast City Cemetery. All the men were later exhumed and reburied in the Lisnabreeny Cemetery. In 1948, all those buried at Lisnabreeny American cemetery exhumed and reburied.

McLean’s grave is in the Cambridge American Cemetery, Coton, Cambridgeshire, UK. His name is remembered on the US Airmen Memorial on the Moyle Walkway, Slieveanorra and on the monument at the former American Military Cemetery in Lisnabreeny.
