Bombardier Hugh Roney (1453086) served in 43rd (5th Duke of Wellington’s Regiment) Searchlight Regiment, Royal Artillery during the Second World War. He was the son of James W. Roney and Mary I. Roney of Portadown, Co. Armagh, and the husband of Phoebe Roney (née Mullen) of Portadown, Co. Armagh.

In civilian life, Hugh worked for Hamilton Robb Ltd. in his hometown before signing up before the outbreak of the Second World War.

Bombardier Roney died on 26th July 1942 aged 39 years old while serving in England. His grave is in Section B, Plot 6, Grave 6 of Seagoe Church of Ireland Churchyard, Portadown, Co. Armagh. His name is on the Portadown War Memorial and the Seagoe Church of Ireland War Memorial, Portadown, Co. Armagh. His headstone bears the inscription:

Not as I will, but as Thou wilt. St. Matt. XXVI.39.
