Rifleman George Anthony McCracken of Ravensdale Street, East Belfast, Co. Down died while serving with 2nd Battalion Royal Ulster Rifles in 1944.

Rifleman George Anthony McCracken (7013828) served in D Company, 2nd Battalion Royal Ulster Rifles during World War Two. He was born in 1921 at 19 Ravensdale Street, Belfast, Co. Down.

In December 1941, he married Joanne Elizabeth Bailey in Dorchester, Dorset. Two of his brothers also served during the Second World War.

George died on Wednesday 21st June 1944 aged 23 years old. Cause of death was shrapnel wounds received to his left side the previous day.

George Anthony McCracken’s grave is in Section III, G=Row J, Grave 6 of Bayeux War Cemetery, Bayeux, Normandy, France.
