Lough Neagh during the Second World War

Lough Neagh is the largest lake in Northern Ireland. During the Second World War, it saw use as a training ground for amphibious land, sea, and air forces.

Inland Water Transport in 1941

On 20th October 1941, sappers of the Royal Engineers' Inland Water Transport laid down smoke screens while patrolling on the waters of Lough Neagh in Ulster.

Waterproofed vehicles at Lady's Bay

On 28th February 1944, the G.O.C Northern Ireland and the Prime Minister observed the testing of American waterproofed vehicles at Lady's Bay, Lough Neagh.
