On 9th June 2024, WartimeNI visited the port village of Carnlough, Co. Antrim to photograph the commemorative plaque to local war hero "Paddy The Pigeon".
On arriving at the Carnlough Heritage Centre by the waters edge, it became evident that the commemorative plaque had been destroyed. Only a couple of days earlier, the site had hosted historians, politicians, and local dignitaries marking the 80th anniversary of the Carnlough born and raised pigeon's role in the Battle of Normandy.
Several local press and media outlets picked up on the story.
