General Dwight D. Eisenhower, Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in Europe made several visits to Northern Ireland during and after the Second World War. Across Ulster, places still bear the name of the Allied Supreme Commander who would go on to become the 34th President of the United States of America.

On 3rd July 1942, Major General Dwight D. Eisenhower concluded a short visit to Northern Ireland where he had inspected elements of the United States Army.

17th May 1944

Between 17th-19th May 1944, General Dwight D Eisenhower visited Northern Ireland to inspect Infantry and Airborne troops as they prepared for Normandy.

General Eisenhower received the Freedom of the City of Belfast and an honorary doctorate from Q.U.B.

23rd August 1945

On 23rd-24th August 1945, future U.S. President General Dwight D. Eisenhower visited Belfast where he received an honorary degree and the Freedom of the City.
