On American Independence Day, 4th July 1944, Martin B-26B Marauder #41-18072 took off from Toome Airfield, Co. Antrim crashing a short time later in a bog.

On 4th July 1944, Martin B-26B Marauder #41-18072 took off from U.S.A.A.F. Station 36 at Toome Airfield, Co. Antrim. The 6-person crew was on a non-operational short navigational flight from the base.

The B-26 plane crashed tail first in a peat bog on high ground in Co. Antrim, not far from the airfield where 3rd Combat Crew Replacement Center operated at the time.
